🇰🇷 BTS sets a 70+ date world tour after military duty. Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) announced a 2026-2027 run from April to March. The South Korean group opens in Goyang, then hops continents fast. Stops include Tokyo, London, and Los Angeles, plus Chicago in August. Tickets go first to Weverse registrants Jan. 22-23, then Jan. 24. BigHit Music says new music lands March 20 after a 4-year pause. Member Suga finished duty as a social service agent in June 2025.

🇮🇷 Iran protest crackdown toll leaps past 2.5K. The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) put deaths at 2,571. HRANA said 2,403 were protesters and 147 were government-affiliated. It said 12 children died and 18,100+ people were detained. Protests began a little over two weeks ago over the economy. Crowds then aimed anger at Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86. Officials have also tightened internet access and outside calls.

🩺 15K New York City nurses walk out, daring hospitals to blink. The New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) says 15,000 nurses struck Monday after talks stalled. The walkout spans NewYork-Presbyterian, Mount Sinai, and Montefiore hospitals. Nurses cite staffing, benefits, workplace safety, and limits on artificial intelligence (AI). Mayor Zohran Mamdani visited a picket line and urged a quick deal. Governor Kathy Hochul sent state health officials as flu season surges. Mount Sinai says it lined up 1,400 temporary nurses, and Montefiore cites $3.6B demands.

🧯 Minneapolis clashes deepen as prosecutors quit after Renee Good. Federal agents and protesters squared off as immigration sweeps widened. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said 2,000+ immigration officers are heading to Minnesota. Police used tear gas, eye irritant, and flash-bang grenades as crowds resisted. Students walked out after agents detained a man at a suburban school. Five+ federal prosecutors resigned, including First Assistant United States Attorney Joe Thompson. A Justice Department official saw no basis for a civil rights probe, as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) inquiry continues.

🗳️ Clintons defy Epstein subpoenas as House threatens contempt. Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declined to testify. House Oversight Committee chair James Comer said contempt proceedings are on the table. Attorney David Kendall called the subpoenas legally invalid and warned of prison penalties. Comer’s panel is pressing the Trump administration’s Justice Department to release Epstein files. Officials say 12,000 related documents surfaced inside 2M pages reviewed. A federal judge, Paul A. Engelmayer, ordered disclosure unless the government justifies secrecy.

🖼️ Smithsonian turns over exhibit plans under White House pressure. The Smithsonian Institution sent the White House new documents on planned displays. President Donald Trump has pushed for an upbeat story for America’s 250th birthday. Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch III said more materials were transmitted and more will follow. The institution runs 21 museums and a zoo that anchor Washington tourism. A Dec. 18 letter from budget director Russell Vought and adviser Vince Haley set the deadline. A March executive order put Vice President JD Vance on the Board of Regents to remove improper ideology.
