🇨🇺 Speedboat shooting reignites Cuba-Florida flashpoint. Cuba says a Florida-registered speedboat sprayed bullets near its north coast. Officials say the boat fired first, hitting troops and a Cuban officer. Four people on the boat died and six others were wounded, Havana said. President Miguel Díaz-Canel called it an attempted infiltration, not a rescue run. Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez accused Washington of tolerating armed groups in Florida. Cuba said at least 30 boats have tried to breach its shores in 4 years. Authorities said they have foiled 10 planned “terrorist actions” tied to those networks. American Senator Marco Rubio called the incident a massacre of Cubans returning home. Cuba’s Interior Ministry said 10 passengers were on board, including Filiberto and Randy Miguel Herrera. Now the island’s migration drama has a new soundtrack: automatic fire and diplomacy.

🇮🇷 Iran’s price spiral accelerates as war talk returns. In Tehran’s bazaars, prices are rising faster than patience. The rial has slid to about 1.3M to $1 on the open market, traders said. Inflation is above 46% versus January last year, economists warned. Workers describe shrinking baskets, not shrinking appetites. Ali Momeni says he earns 700M rials (about $540) a month. He says 1 kilo of red meat jumped from 13M rials ($10) to 22M rials ($17) in a month. Milk doubled from 520K rials to 1.1M, and pasta rose from 340K to 570K. Taxi driver Farhad Panahirad says his household makes 600M rials (about $460) and feels trapped. The squeeze intensifies as President Donald Trump repeats attack threats while diplomats head to Geneva talks. In Iran, the war drum is distant, but the checkout line is immediate.

🩺 Casey Means dodges vaccine pledges under Senate fire. Physician Casey Means, 38, faced sharp questions in her surgeon general hearing. She argued America is trapped in "reactive sick care" and needs prevention first. Senator Bill Cassidy asked if she would advise flu and measles vaccines amid outbreaks. Means would not give a direct yes, stressing patient choice and doctor judgment. Cassidy then asked whether she accepts evidence vaccines do not cause autism. Means said she accepts that evidence, but added that science is never settled. Senator Patty Murray challenged her past claim that birth control is prescribed "like candy". Means said contraception should be available, but warned of side effects for some patients. Senator Susan Collins raised her praise of psychedelic mushrooms as therapeutic. Senator Bernie Sanders questioned her qualifications and noted her medical license is inactive.

🧾 Vance pauses Minnesota Medicaid funds, citing fraud. Vice President JD Vance said the administration is pausing some Medicaid funding to Minnesota. He cited fraud concerns tied to food, child care, and health programs, not routine billing. Officials said $259.5M in federal reimbursements is being withheld. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Mehmet Oz called the alleged scheme "unprecedented". Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said the move is political and demanded evidence. Attorney General Keith Ellison said the state has already prosecuted hundreds of cases. Federal data cited 300 fraud convictions in Minnesota since 2019. Vance’s office said taxpayers should not bankroll "scoundrels" who game the system. Walz noted about 1.2M Minnesotans use Medicaid, including seniors and children. Now a fraud crackdown is colliding with a basic promise: health care is supposed to arrive on time.

💵 Nvidia prints $68.1B quarter, keeps AI believers fed. Nvidia ($NVDA) posted another blowout quarter, and the numbers did the talking. Revenue for November through January surged 73% to $68.1B. Profit nearly doubled to about $43B, or $1.76 per share. Chief executive officer (CEO) Jensen Huang said demand for the chips is "skyrocketing". The company said its revenue target for February through April implies 77% growth from last year. Its market value has jumped from about $400B at the end of 2022 to nearly $4.8T. That rise briefly made it the most valuable stock in the Standard and Poor’s 500 index (S&P 500). Investors still wonder if the artificial intelligence (AI) buildout will repay its trillions. The stock initially rose about 4% in extended trading, then slipped slightly during the call. The report reads like a flex, and like a stress test for the whole AI economy.
