π©π° Denmark votes with Greenland on its mind. Denmark held an early general election Tuesday. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is seeking a third term. More than 4.3M voters are eligible. The vote chooses the 179-seat Folketing for four years. The immediate trigger was not inflation or migration. It was Donald Trumpβs pressure campaign over Greenland. That pushed sovereignty to the center of Danish politics. Frederiksen cast herself as the steward of national resolve. The campaign became a referendum on steadiness under external pressure. In Copenhagen, Greenland stopped being a distant territory and became the ballotβs unspoken headline.

π·πΊ Russiaβs spring offensive may already be underway. Russia fired nearly 400 drones at Ukraine. The barrage also included missiles. Ukrainian officials said four people were killed. At least 27 others were injured. Civilian areas were hit, including Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainian officials say front-line pressure is also increasing. That has raised fears the spring offensive has begun. Moscow keeps pairing attrition with spectacle. Kyiv, meanwhile, must defend cities and trenches at once. The attack says the season has changed, but not the method: grind, terrorize, advance.

π’οΈ Texas refinery erupts, then the smoke finally lifts. A large explosion rocked the Valero refinery in Port Arthur, Texas. The blast sent smoke high above the Gulf Coast. Residents nearby were told to shelter in place. The order was later lifted. Officials said no one was injured. The refinery sits about 90 miles east of Houston. Port Arthur Mayor Charlotte M. Moses urged calm as crews fought the fire. Some schools closed as a precaution. Homes miles away reportedly shook. On the Texas coast, petrochemical normalcy remains the kind of stability that can vanish in one loud, violent flash.

π° Prediction markets finally admit insider trading is bad optics. Kalshi and Polymarket rushed out new guardrails Monday. Both platforms are reacting to bipartisan scrutiny. Kalshi will ban candidates from trading on their own campaigns. It will also block athletes and sports employees from betting on relevant contracts. Polymarket rewrote its rules too. It now bars users from trading where they hold confidential information or can influence outcomes. Senators Adam Schiff and John Curtis introduced legislation that could seriously curb the industry. Even so, the platforms still enjoy backing from the Trump-controlled Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Donald Trump Jr. also has ties to both firms. In an industry built on wagers about the future, the newest bet is that ethics language can slow a crackdown.

π₯ Leona Helmsley is funding the rural care state forgot. Leona Helmsley was once known as the queen of mean. In death, her fortune has taken on a stranger afterlife. The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust has spent more than $850M on rural health care since 2009. It has backed telemedicine, psychiatry, cardiac care, and cancer treatment. In Miles City, Montana, it supplied $6M of the $17M needed for a new cancer center. The timing is brutal and useful. From 2005 to 2023, 81 rural hospitals shut down. The trust expects to spend $84M on rural health this fiscal year. Walter Panzirer says your ZIP code should not determine outcomes. In rural America, philanthropy is now doing some of the work public policy chose not to do.

π Markets stop cheering and go back to squinting. American markets opened lower Tuesday. Mondayβs relief rally did not survive the night. The war in Iran continued. Donald Trump said progress had been made in talks. Oil traders were not fully convinced. Benchmark American crude rose $2.20 to $90.33 a barrel. Brent added $1.47 to reach $101.41. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Standard and Poorβs 500 each slipped 0.1%. Nasdaq futures were flat. During wartime markets, optimism now lasts about as long as the next missile alert and take-shelter warning.
