🇮🇹 Meloni warns the Arctic is not a punchline. Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said an American military move on Greenland is unlikely. She urged the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to treat the Arctic as core business. Meloni said Denmark’s sovereignty still matters, even when President Donald Trump riffs about control. She warned that security talk should be taken seriously, not shrugged off. Danish leaders have repeatedly said the island is not for sale. The Arctic is turning into a shipping shortcut and a radar corridor. In her view, alliance planning must outrun the headlines.

🇬🇱 How an American Greenland takeover could actually work. President Donald Trump’s Greenland push has moved from slogan to scenario planning. American officials are weighing options from purchase talks to expanded basing under existing agreements. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers the goal is eventual purchase, not force. Experts note a Compact of Free Association (COFA) style deal can trade security vetoes for roughly $7B a year in aid. Greenland has about 57K residents, so persuasion is not a mass-market exercise. The American military already runs Pituffik Space Base, with about 200 personnel today. The hard part is politics, Denmark and Greenland keep saying no, loudly.

💳 Trump’s 10% credit-card cap meets bank resistance. President Donald Trump floated a 1-year 10% cap on credit-card interest, and banks balked. He said the move could save consumers tens of billions in interest. Analysts note average rates sit near 19.65% overall and about 21.5% on revolving balances. Senator Roger Marshall, a Kansas Republican, has pushed a similar ceiling. The American Bankers Association warns price caps can shrink credit access and rewards. Supporters span odd bedfellows, from Senator Bernie Sanders to Senator Josh Hawley. With the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) sidelined, the fight may land in Congress.

🪧 ICE protests go national after Minneapolis and Portland. Protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are spreading after shootings in Minneapolis and Portland. The activist network Indivisible said hundreds of demonstrations are scheduled, including in all 50 states. Federal officials say the Twin Cities operation involved about 2K Department of Homeland Security personnel. Minneapolis police said at least 30 people were arrested as crowds confronted officers. Authorities reported people threw ice, snow, and rocks during clashes. Organizers say the point is oversight and accountability, not chaos. The crackdown’s paperwork now comes with a street soundtrack.

🎼 Washington National Opera exits the Kennedy Center. Washington National Opera says it will leave the Kennedy Center after its current contract ends. The shift follows President Donald Trump’s takeover of the center’s board and leadership. Interim executive director Ric Grenell said the venue spent millions on opera while the company ran deficits. Artistic director Francesca Zambello said the mission stays, even if the address changes. Grenell said the new model demands productions be fully funded before curtains rise. Some artists have canceled or criticized appearances amid the turmoil. Opera is still singing, just not from that stage.
