🇮🇷 Iranians flee cities for villages as strikes shake daily life. Pouya Akhgari, 22, left Tehran for a village about 200 km away. Snow fell in Zanjan province as he streamed shows and waited. Friends in Tehran described blasts nearby as nights grew louder. One father said explosions made his 6½-year-old son tremble in bed. The family drove west through shattered windows and rising smoke. Traffic thickened, and more explosions jolted their car on the highway. They reached a small village over the mountains near the Caspian Sea. Days now mean walks, rice paddies, and keeping kids busy. Residents, they said, offered remarkable kindness amid the fear. The countryside feels safer, but the war still rides in every phone alert.

🇮🇶 Cardinal Louis Sako retires as Iraq braces for spillover. Iraqi Cardinal Louis Sako, 76, said he asked to retire for prayer and writing. Pope Leo XIV granted the request on the day Sako proposed. Sako said he stepped down freely and will not interfere. He led the Chaldean Catholic Church through the Islamic State group (IS) years. The church is an Eastern Rite community in communion with Rome. Iran-backed militias in Iraq have launched dozens of attacks, the report said. In 2023, President Abdul Latif Rashid revoked a decree recognizing Sako’s role. Sako blamed Rayan al-Kildani and the Babylon Brigades militia for a campaign. He returned to Baghdad in April 2024 after an invitation from Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. His exit opens a succession contest as regional war pressure builds.

🍑 Georgia heads to a runoff for Greene’s old House seat. Democrat Shawn Harris and Republican Clay Fuller advanced when no one won a majority. The special election had 14 candidates across parties. Fuller is a district attorney who prosecutes crimes in four counties. President Donald Trump endorsed Fuller in February. Marjorie Taylor Greene resigned in January after a falling out with Trump. Fuller said the endorsement helped push him into the runoff. Harris said he wants a coalition of Democrats, independents, and Republicans. He pitched himself as practical, not performative, in contrast to Greene’s style. The runoff is scheduled for April 7th, Fuller said at his watch party. The seat matters because House control is tight at 218 to 214.

🗳️ Thune eyes a vote on Trump’s bill, rejects a floor-marathon. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the chamber will consider a voting bill. The bill is the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. Trump told Republicans he wants it before anything else moves. Democrats oppose it, meaning the filibuster blocks passage. Thune said Republicans lack votes to end the filibuster. He also pushed back on demands for a “talking filibuster” spectacle. Trump argued the bill is needed to win the midterms. Federal law already requires citizens for federal voting, the report noted. Thune framed the math as reality. The fight is about procedure, but it is sold as purity.

🔬 Regulators find little proof autism drug claims match reality. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said evidence is thin that leucovorin helps autism. Leucovorin is a folate-related drug used for chemotherapy side effects and a rare blood disorder. Officials said a White House event last year boosted the drug’s profile. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had promised a major autism push, the report said. Medical societies said the autism benefit remains unclear. The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend routine leucovorin use for autistic children. A Lancet paper found prescriptions for ages 5 to 17 rose 71% after a September Trump event. University of Pennsylvania expert David Mandell warned families are getting whiplash. Some parents reported trouble filling prescriptions as demand surged. The agency’s message was blunt: hope is not a substitute for data.
