🌎 GLOBAL NEWS
🇲🇦 Two American soldiers vanish in Morocco. Two American service members are missing in southwestern Morocco. United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) said the search is ongoing. The service members are American Army soldiers. A defense official said they went missing while hiking. They were not actively training when they disappeared. The day’s exercises had already ended. The incident happened around 9 p.m. Saturday. Moroccan officials said it occurred near the Cap Draa Training Area. That is near Tan Tan and close to the Atlantic Ocean. The terrain is mountainous, desert, and semidesert. The soldiers had been in Morocco for African Lion. That is an annual multinational military exercise. American, Moroccan, and other participating forces launched search-and-rescue operations. The search includes helicopters. It also includes ships, mountain rescue units, and divers. The military language here is precise. The human meaning is not. A routine recreational hike has become an international emergency.
🇮🇷 Iran wants an ending, not another pause. Iran says it is reviewing America’s response to its latest war proposal. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran is not holding nuclear negotiations at this stage. That distinction matters. Iran wants the war addressed first. Nuclear demands can wait. State-linked Iranian media said the proposal seeks resolution within 30 days. It calls for sanctions relief. It also calls for America to end its naval blockade of Iranian ports. It calls for American forces to withdraw from the region. It calls for hostilities to cease, including Israeli operations in Lebanon. President Trump said he is reviewing the proposal. He also expressed doubt it will produce a deal. Meanwhile, Trump said America will begin guiding stranded ships out of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran called that a ceasefire violation. The strait remains the pressure point. About a fifth of global oil and natural gas trade normally passes there. Iran is treating closure as leverage. Washington is treating navigation as force-backed logistics.
🇺🇸 LOCAL NEWS
🔥 Wildfire detection gets machine eyes. Western states are adding artificial intelligence (AI) to wildfire detection. The reason is simple. Fire is getting faster. People are not always watching where smoke starts. In Arizona’s Coconino National Forest, an AI camera recently spotted early signs of the Diamond Fire. Human analysts checked the feed. They confirmed it was not a cloud or dust. Firefighters responded quickly. The blaze was contained before growing past 7 acres. Arizona Public Service has nearly 40 active AI smoke-detection cameras. It plans to have 71 by the end of summer. Arizona’s state fire agency has deployed seven more. Xcel Energy has installed 126 cameras in Colorado. It wants cameras in seven of the eight states it serves by year’s end. California’s ALERTCalifornia network has about 1,240 AI-enabled cameras. Humans still verify alerts to reduce false positives. That matters because bad alerts waste time. But in remote country, no alert may be worse. The West is trying to make smoke visible before it becomes a headline.
🏥 Giuliani enters critical condition. Rudy Giuliani is hospitalized in critical but stable condition. His spokesman Ted Goodman confirmed the news Sunday. He did not say what sent Giuliani to the hospital. He also did not give a prognosis. Giuliani is 81. He was mayor of New York City for eight years. His mayoralty ended with the September 11th attacks defining his public image. That period made him known as “America’s mayor.” The phrase now belongs to a different political era. Giuliani later ran unsuccessfully for president. He also became a close adviser to President Trump. He led Trump’s effort to stay in office after the 2020 election loss. That work remade his legacy again. It turned a former crisis mayor into a symbol of election denial. Goodman said Giuliani is a fighter. That is the family line and the political line at once. For now, the story is medical before it is historical. But Giuliani’s condition inevitably reopens the long argument over what his public life finally meant.

🛒 GameStop wants eBay’s second life. GameStop Corp. ($GME) wants to buy eBay Inc. ($EBAY). The offer is worth about $56B. Ryan Cohen’s company is proposing $125 per share in cash and stock. The idea sounds strange until you remember GameStop’s modern identity. It is no longer only a video game retailer. It is a meme-stock survivor looking for a second act. Cohen says eBay has the second-largest commerce franchise. He sees it as a way to compete with Amazon.com Inc. ($AMZN). GameStop says its roughly 1,600 American stores could become shipping and drop-off hubs. It also floated live sales broadcasts from stores featuring eBay products. eBay said it had received no outreach before the bid. Its board will review the offer. GameStop already owns a 5% stake in eBay. It says it can cut $2B in annual costs within a year. Cohen owns about 9% of GameStop. He would run the combined company. Wall Street heard ambition. eBay shares jumped. GameStop shares fell.
📈 Markets climb while oil keeps warning. Wall Street is still near record territory. Oil is still climbing. That tension is doing most of the talking. Investors continue to hope the Iran war will not break the global economy. Companies are also still reporting enough profit growth to keep optimism alive. Tyson Foods beat expectations. Its beef sales volumes fell. But prices rose 11.5%, keeping beef revenue slightly higher. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings also topped profit expectations. Its problem was demand. The company said fuel costs and war anxiety are weighing on bookings, especially in Europe. Its shares fell 4.7%. Oil prices rose after Iranian reports claimed Iran struck an American Navy vessel near the Strait of Hormuz. The American military rejected that claim. It later said two American-flagged merchant ships had successfully crossed the strait. eBay jumped 5.6% after GameStop’s takeover bid. GameStop fell 4%. The 10-year Treasury yield edged up to 4.41%. The market is not ignoring war. It is pricing around it.
