🇮🇷 Iran’s rial sinks and staples get pricier. Iran’s currency slid past 1.3M rials to the American dollar, a fresh record low on unofficial markets. Traders say it took less than two weeks to tumble from the previous 1.2M threshold. The drop followed tighter American sanctions, stalled nuclear talks, and jitters over regional conflict. Economists warn the weaker rial will quickly raise prices for imported wheat, cooking oil, and medicine. Shopkeepers in Tehran already report suppliers repricing goods daily, while central bank officials promise interventions. Many households now treat the exchange rate board as a running tally of shrinking paychecks.

🏛 Trump calls White House ballroom a security need. The Trump administration told a federal judge that a new White House ballroom is essential for national security. Lawyers say it would host classified briefings and crisis meetings with foreign leaders. Critics, including historians and watchdog groups, see a vanity project repackaged as policy. Officials argue the space will include secure communications gear and reinforced walls. Preservationists warn it could reshape one of Washington’s most carefully protected landmarks. The judge has not yet decided whether construction can continue while the challenge proceeds.
